Desertmartin Motocross Track
In the world of motocross, both national and international, Desertmartin refers not to the village of Desertmartin, which is situated some four miles west of the town of Magherafelt, but to a technically testing and world renowned motocross circuit; a circuit fabricated and developed over a period of 30 years by well known Cookstown & District Motocross Club.
The former sandpit known as "Porter's Pit" is owned by the Porter family but is leased by the Cookstown Club who have developed it into one of the best known motocross tracks in the world, and one of the few with full planning permission.
The "Desert", as it's fondly known, has been developed over the years with not just the riders in mind but also provides for the spectators. Walkways and spectator areas are plentiful with a large hardcore paddock area for the riders to park and work on their machines. Toilet facilities are good, and on race days catering is always provided.
On most race days the full track is not used as the "back section" is usually kept for large championship days or for two day racing. (See Track Map below)
A small group of club officials and enthusiasts are responsible for the running of events at Desertmartin which are run under MRA rules and on other days when the track is free the track is rented out to other motocross clubs or on a few occasions now to "Land Rover" to host hospitality days as they demonstrate their new vehicles to prospective buyers.
So if you are interested in hiring the track for an event give us a call, otherwise why not come along and see the motocross guys and girls in action on one of our race days. (See Calendar & Contacts pages)
